Mapatiza Gemstone Mine Tour
A 30-minute underground tour through a replica mine — a unique walk through the life of a gemstone.
About this tour
The Mapatiza Gemstone Mine school tour offers Grade 1–12 learners a unique 30-minute underground walk through a purpose-built replica mine. It is a hands-on CAPS-aligned Geography excursion that brings the world of rocks, minerals and gemstones to life in a way classroom photos never can.
Inside the tunnels, learners trace the journey of a gemstone — from formation deep in the earth, through mining and sorting, all the way to cutting, polishing and jewellery design. Friendly guides pitch the science to the appropriate phase, making the experience equally engaging for Foundation, Intermediate and Senior learners.
Wilrien School Tours handles the full educational excursion package: bus transport (if required) from your school, mine entry, professional guiding and teacher support — making it a popular Geography school outing for Gauteng schools.
