Maropeng Visitor Centre
Guided visit to Maropeng — the official visitor centre for the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site. Interactive exhibits on the origins of humankind.
About this tour
The Maropeng Visitor Centre school tour, set inside the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site just outside Johannesburg, is a flagship CAPS-aligned Life Sciences and History excursion for Grade 1–12 learners. The site's name literally means “returning to the place of origin”.
Inside the iconic Tumulus building, learners take an underground boat ride through the four elements, walk through interactive exhibits on evolution, climate and early hominids, and engage with real fossil casts and educator-led activities. It is the ideal stand-alone heritage day when caves are not on the itinerary.
Wilrien School Tours handles the full educational excursion package: bus transport (if required) from your school, Maropeng entry, professional guiding and teacher support — making it one of the most requested heritage school tours in Gauteng.
